Lighter, More Powerful Yamaha F115

10 Nov 2011

Yamaha’s 2012 model year F115A, incorporating numerous design and engineering changes, a raft of new ancillary equipment, new materials and the latest weight saving technology, is even lighter and more fuel-efficient than its class-leading predecessor.

The new F115A is a development of Yamaha’s highly successful DOHC 16-valve, in-line four-cylinder 115hp engine, the benchmark for reliability and durability since it was first released with electronic fuel injection (EFI) in 1999.

The 2012 F115A’s intake system has all new parts, including the cowling, which together shave 3kg from the engine’s total weight. A new long-track intake system with single throttle valve and resonator improves throttle response, while redesigned combustion chambers contribute to improved performance and fuel efficiency.

An upgraded ECM (engine control module) knock-sensor offers better protection against engine knocking caused by poor fuel, improves combustion efficiency, and boosts performance and acceleration. Changes to the intake ports, an upgraded vapour separator and a redesigned, more rigid cowling provide improved air intake efficiency, better draining and superior vibration resilience.

The lightweight, compact F115A is popular for twin-engine installations (with Yamaha’s counter-rotating propeller option) and an extremely good fit for medium-sized, single-engine fishing and family-oriented boats.

Yamaha’s F115A is rated as an ultra-low emission engine, exceeding all European and US emissions guidelines.
