Online shopping scams involve scammers pretending to be legitimate online sellers, either with a fake website or a fake ad on a genuine retailer site.Yamaha has been made aware of many online shopping or social media scams where consumers purchase Yamaha stock from online retailers via a website and/or enter fake competitions in social media and the retailer/advertiser fails to deliver the stock and doesn’t answer calls or reply to emails when complaints are made. These retailers are not authorised Yamaha dealers or distributors of Yamaha products. Yamaha are not responsible or liable for any purchases/competition entries made via these channels. If you think you have been the victim of a scam you can report it to Consumer Protection at https://www.consumerprotection.govt.nz/

Consumer Protection advise the warning signs of online shopping scams include:

  • A product is advertised at an unbelievably low price, or advertised to have amazing benefits or features that sound too good to be true.
  • The other party insists on immediate payment, or payment by electronic funds transfer or a wire service.
  • An online retailer does not provide adequate information about privacy, terms and conditions of use, dispute resolution or contact details.
  • The seller may be based overseas, or the seller does not allow payment through a secure payment service such as PayPal or a credit card transaction.
