Momentum Building for Altherm JCR Yamaha

21 Feb 2014

Altherm JCR Yamaha looks to build momentum heading to Round 2 of the 2014 Backflips New Zealand Motocross Nationals in Tokoroa this weekend.

The team have been working hard at their headquarters outside of Nelson, under the guidance of team manager Josh Coppins and are keen to build on their strong showing at the opening round less than a fortnight ago in Timaru.

“Time has been flying by for us, the guys have been riding a lot, as well as mountain biking and training”, explained Coppins. “For Round 2 we want more wins across the board.

“We need to focus on extending the 125cc class lead with Logan Blackburn; aiming for more wins in MX2 with Scott Columb on the YZ250 and making sure visiting Australian Jay Wilson is contending for the lead on the all-new YZ250F.

"With one round in the bag and a finely-tuned preparation schedule over the past two weeks, Billy Mackenzie is also feeling confident to raise the bar in the MX1 class," confirmed Coppins. "We definitely want to ramp it up another level this weekend."

MX2 class rider Scott Columb knows he has a challenge on his hands to defend his title aboard the legendary YZ250.

“I’m feeling good, particularly after a busy two weeks leading up to Round 2 training with the guys and working on bike set-up”, said Columb. “We’ve made some suspension adjustments and the bike feels good. I want to win, I hate coming second.

“I’m feeling determined to get some wins and want the championship lead after Tokoroa," finished Columb.

In the MX1 class, visiting Scottish team rider Billy Mackenzie wants to again be in the mix this weekend at Round 2 fighting for wins, and has been continuing to build confidence in his riding, and improving his setup on the all-new Yamaha YZ450F.

“I’ve been doing a lot of riding, putting in plenty of hours in between rounds”, explained Mackenzie. “Great to have the team guys on hand to make adjustments on the bike, and continue to improve my bike set-up. I’m making the most of the time with Josh and the Altherm JCR Yamaha team, and hope to fight for some wins at Round 2”.

Racing for Round 2 of the 2014 Backflips NZ MX Championships in Tokoroa will look to get underway by 10am on Sunday.
